José Maçãs de Carvalho
Graduated in Arts Management from the Institute of European Studies of Macao (1998). During the period in which he lived in Macau (from 1994 to 1998) he was Guest Assistant at the Polytechnic Institute of Macau and Pedagogical Coordinator of Educational Television.
He was a fellow of Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (1994), Fundação Oriente (1999-2003), Camões Institute (2001) and Portuguese Center of Photography (2003). In 2002 he commissionedthe project “Topographies of the Vine and Wine”, a photographic mission on the Bairrada Region,(Cordoaria Nacional, Lisbon and Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin).
In 2003 he would commission and design the temporary and permanent exhibitions of the Bairrada Wine Museum, Anadia.
In 2005 he commissioned “My Own Private Pictures”, at Plataforma Revólver, within the scope of LisbonPhoto. Named for the BESPhoto 2005 Award (January to March 2006, CCB, Lisbon).
